Dear Brookside Bobcats and Families:
We are eager to welcome over 150 new TK and Kindergarten students to the Brookside Family on August 22nd, along with our returning students! Welcome to the 22/23 school year! Once again, Brookside is a peanut and peanut butter free school.
Please join us in welcoming our new staff members! Ms. Marian Lohne will be a reading coach and Ms. Leigh Logsdon will be a Reading Specialist on the Brookside literacy team. One focus, along with maintaining a safe school and ensuring that our students love coming to school, is that all students are reading at Grade-level. Our new literacy team, along with Mrs. Diane Johnson, will support our success. We’re excited that Mr. Ron Runberg is joining us as our PE teacher! We are happy to welcome Ms. Liz Sedano as a para-educator for the TK program, and Ms. Briana Sanchez as one of our bilingual para-educators. Ms. Jaclyn Luna will be teaching 1st Grade, and Mrs. Jenny Nelson will work with Ms. Lisa Mey teaching 1st Grade. Mrs. Kourtni Klee is joining us as our new campus supervisor. We are excited about our new team members and send them a warm welcome! They, along with the rest of our Brookside Team, are here to welcome and support your child.

Our first day of school is Monday, August 22, 2022. The schedule is varied the first few weeks due to family conferences in Kindergarten and TK, but becomes normal the third week of school.
To be as safe as possible, we will continue the drop off and pick up procedures as we have been. Families will drop off and pick up students in front of the school. The parking lot opens for drop off and pick up 15 minutes before school start and end times. If you wait in the car line outside the parking lot, please do not block driveways of homes, or the street. Once everyone knows the routines, the line usually moves quickly, please be kind and have patience. For safety, cars do not enter the parking lot until the busses leave the lot.
For those students being driven to school, we will have a system like last year, where children are left with a staff member in front of the school. There are lots of team members to open car doors and welcome students to school. After school, your child’s teacher and class will be waiting in front of the school and you can drive through the parking lot and pick up your child. In general, the first classes in line on the parking lot sidewalk are the TK and K classes, then the first grade classes and then the second grade. Adults who are walking students to and from school (or parking and walking), please drop off and pick up by the telephone pole in front of the school. There will be a staff member to meet students who are walked to school. For those here last year, these will be the same as last year’s drop-off and pick-up practices. If you attend the TK and K Meet and Greet on Friday, 8/19, your TK and K child will receive a name badge to wear to school. If you don’t attend, it would be helpful for your child to have a slip of paper with your first and last name and grade.
Students in TK-Grade 2 can ride the bus to school (depending on bus routes) beginning on Day one of school. Students in Grades 1-2 can ride the bus home beginning on the first day of school, but students in Grade K will not take the bus home until after Labor Day, on September 6th. Students in Grade TK will be met by family/care-giver at school at 11:30 every day- no TK bus home. Contact Mattie in Transportation with questions about riding the bus: 707.459.5314 x 1594.
A late breakfast and lunch will be offered to each child free of charge. Please contact the office at 459-5385 and let us know if your child needs breakfast upon arriving to school on a regular basis rather than at regular snack time. Families are welcome to send their own meals for students, if desired. Please do not send glass containers, or any items containing peanuts. Brookside is a peanut and peanut butter free school. We have a student with a severe airborne allergy to peanuts. Absolutely NO peanuts or peanut butter (students or staff) will be allowed on campus. Thank you for helping to ensure all children stay safe at school.
Please do send your child to school with a backpack, and a water bottle. If your child needs masks, a backpack or water bottle, we can help- please just let us know. Please leave all toys, gadgets, trinkets, prized items, etc… at home. They will probably be lost or broken at school. Items will be taken by a staff member and sent home or a family member may be asked to pick up.
We hope you consider volunteering in your child’s classroom! Your child’s teacher will send information home about volunteer opportunities. If you have suggestions, questions, or concerns, you are welcome to make an appointment and meet with your child’s teacher and or me anytime. Just call the school and we will arrange a meeting by phone or in person as soon as possible.
We are beginning a new school-wide routine called, “Friday Folders.” Each Friday, a folder will come home with weekly information and homework. All written communication will be sent on Fridays, so you will know when to check backpacks.
Please ensure that your child’s Parent Portal is kept up to date with your emergency contact information, and names and numbers of people who can pick up your child after school, if they are sick, or in an emergency. On the Portal, you can signify that you want current and emergency information delivered to you by automated calls home. In the week before school, your child’s teacher will be posted to the Parent Portal. TK and Kindergarten teachers are planning Meet and Greet Opportunities in the days before school. Most 1st and 2nd Grade teachers are planning them, as well. That information will be posted soon. Your child’s teacher will contact you with the location of the meeting and date/time.
